Sketchbookings

Here are a few sketches from my ole sketchbook that I did over the weekend. I don't post too much from it because it is such a pain to scan, but I liked these two sketches. Kind of nutty. I might need to paint them someday. Enjoy.

Illustration Friday: Wrinkles

Perhaps you just need a tighter ponytail.

This was a lame idea that popped into my head, so I did a very quick sketch with some slapped on color. Gross, I know, but I do like where her ear ended up.

Illustration Friday: Primitive

Ahhh crayons, the primitive tool of my youth. I took my kids out for pizza for my son's birthday tonight. They always ask how many kid's menus we need and I usually get enough for me too. Place mat menus, crayons and food-- an excellent combination.

Tattoo

I'm not a tattoo kind of guy. Too permanent. But, it is fun to draw the not-so-long-lasting kind. My wife was sitting there, exposing a bit of sexy leg, and I had my pen in hand. This was the result. My kids helped by giving suggestions for the banners. Eat your veggies-- a total Mom tattoo. Enjoy.

Digital or Gouache

Just playing around a little bit. This first image was done in photoshop and the second was done in gouache. Each one took about the same amount of time. I can't figure out which one I like more. What do you think? One thing I learned is that my scanner isn't very accurate.

Sketch Painting

Just a little something done while waiting for paint to dry. I been super busy lately, so I thought I'd at least post something.

Illustration Friday: Garden

I drew this guy in college back in 91-92. I thought I'd post it because...well.. it's Garden Man! Defender of the freshly cultivated.

Illustration Friday: Leap

This is part of a very rough sketch for a book I'm working on. It seemed to fit the topic so I went with it. If I had a bit more time I might have done something a little better. Oh well.

Mark Honschke

Mark Honschke, a very talented artist and sculptor, just started a new blog to showcase some of his work. He contacted me a while ago and asked if he could build some models based on a few of my paintings. Of course I was thrilled and honored that somebody would look at my stuff let alone want to sculpt it. Here are my sketches and his models. It is so cool to see my sketches come to life. Thanks Mark.

Check out his blog to see more stuff. I know I'll be checking back often.

Illustration Friday: Tales and Legends

The tale of the little mersquid is a less known among bipeds, but it kills with undersea children.

I did the sketch for this piece earlier this month and I liked it enough that I thought I should paint it, if I ever found the time. So, yesterday I needed to do a painting demo for my class and I thought Miss Squid would be perfect. It worked up pretty nicely, especially when you have a bunch of students watching over your shoulder. Talk about pressure. I was pretty happy with the way it turned out. Enjoy.

Another cowboy

A little sepia cowboy for your viewing pleasure.

Illustration Friday: Plain

A plain ole cowboy out on the plains. This was a very quick demo that I did for my class today. Pen sketch with ink wash.

two girls

Here are a few recent doodles. On the second one I only used orange and green. Kind of different, but fun to do.

Green Girl

Beats me. Sometimes I have no idea where a sketch will take me. I didn't plan on drawing this, but it just what came out of the pencil. Who am I to argue with...me? A least it is something new for this week.
